Election of new executive committee
In its general membership meeting, convened on 18 March 2017, the Eritrean Law Society (ELS) has elected a new executive committee (ExCo), entrusted, among other things, with the implementation of a revitalisation plan of the Society. The plan will be given effect over the next two years.
Over the past several years, ELS was experiencing some institutional obstacles related to the fact that it is an organisation operating from exile, like many other Eritrean civil society organisations, apparent limitations owed to this fact. The election of the new ExCo is expected to take ELS to a new chapter in which the Society is expected to strive hard for the achievement of its core objectives, one of which is: promoting the establishment of an Eritrean politico-legal system anchored on respect for the rule of law. Members of the newly elected ExCo are:
Dr. Daniel Mekonnen (Executive Director)
Mr. Biniam F. Ghebremichael (Secretary)
Mr. Wesenseghed Hagos (Treasurer)
Announcement of this information was delayed due to the fact that the website of ELS was down for a prolonged period of time. The website has gone online in a renewed format and shape as from this week. It is still undergoing renovation.
The Society would like to take this occasion to extend its call:
1) on all Eritrean legal professionals who have not yet joined the Society to do so, and
2) on all who are interested in supporting the Society to provide whatever support they can give
by contacting the ExCo in the contact details provided on this website.
